VISIPRISE SFM IN A DEFENSE ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURING ENVIRONMENT: ADAPTATION AND IMPLEMENTATION AT GDLS-TO Bruce Stilmack
General Dynamics Land Systems - Tallahassee Operations (GDLS-TO) recently converted from its "home grown" MES application to Visiprise CAPP/SFM. This presentation documents the tasks accomplished while seeking an optimum solution to accommodate functionality of an aging system (with ties to legacy MRP), corporate specific business rules and site unique testing1 requirements. The "new system" was required to interface with TipQA, be flexible enough for a multi site application and open for an imminent Oracle ERP implementation. We review the Lessons Learned during the development and deployment phases; software caused network latency issues, planned enhancements and the near future use of SFM at other GDLS facilities. Participants will be exposed to the issues they may face trying to adapt their unique requirements to the core Visiprise product and the importance of their need to first understand their own business rules and then manage Visiprise interpretation of these rules.
Please note: New time scheduled. |

BOEING: CAPTURING AND COMMUNICATING COMPLEX INTEGRATION KNOWLEDGE BETWEEN MULTIPLE DISPARATE COTS APPLICATIONS Richard Luoma
With the speed of business along with the advent of electronic data interchange, we have to re-address how we manage manufacturing knowledge and adapt our processes. This will require faster, more efficient and accurate access to knowledge to support the factory production users.
Combining detailed technical knowledge from multiple Commercial off-the Shelf (COTS) applications with the integration technologies that link them together, and presenting that knowledge to a mixture of technical and non-technical audiences is challenging endeavor. Our objectives were to expand the knowledge and understanding of both the functional support personnel and the information technology specialists who support these new processes, applications and interactions in a production environment.
I will present the methods that we used to capture and clarify this knowledge, derived from multiple sources such as interface control documents, business event flows, integration technology requirements, multiple COTS applications, and the users’ knowledge of the manufacturing and quality processes. In addition, I will also include “lessons learned” which describe how our organization gained better knowledge and continues to provide support to these new COTS applications in the Boeing Integrated Defense Systems manufacturing centers in the Puget Sound region. |

AUTOMATING MANUFACTURING COMPLIANCE TO ENABLE OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE Brad Ison
Manufacturers face compliance pressures from all directions: Internal policies and procedures, external government agencies such as the FDA, FAA, and EU, and customer-driven requirements. However, top companies should view compliance as more than just merely meeting imposed mandates and regulations. The Automation of Manufacturing Compliance is a key enabler to achieving Operational Excellence across all industries. A comprehensive technology strategy should include an architecture that closely integrates plant floor Production and Quality Management with feedback to the Enterprise Quality System. |

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER SCIENCES CORPORATION (CSC) Chris Lennon, Drew Gant
The Manufacturing business landscape is changing, and the cost to service valued customers is rising, the cost of materials and demand is unpredictable, and the need to work within the ever changing regulatory compliance parameters have created an environment where companies must be able plan, execute, verify, and provide real time manufacturing detailed traceability facts of specific incoming and outgoing materials at a whims notice.
By intertwining your MES with a comprehensive and exhaustive business process assessment, you can address the aforementioned issues while positively impacting bottom-line results. This session will provide an introduction to CSC’s MES capabilities, provide an overview to the CSC alliance with Visiprise and will discuss how CSC can enable your company to realize its business goals by leveraging MES. You will learn how CSC assesses existing business processes to ensure MES capabilities are maximized and how to establish a roadmap for integrating the MES solution within existing and planned systems environments. |

NEW PRODUCT INTRODUCTION BEST PRACTICES Rick Nordin
New Product Introduction (NPI) can be a complex and challenging process to manage, requiring attention to planning, cross functional organization, application of new knowledge and technology, and efficiency in manufacturing process design to ensure the successful new product launch. Manufacturers focusing on NPI improvements can turn to Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to support their NPI objectives, including:
- Facilitating the integration of NPI teams on a single system
- Enabling rapid prototyping runs to gather high resolution manufacturing data to highlight areas in need of rapid improvement
- Feeding Design For Manufacturing (DFM) programs with manufacturing fact-based data analysis for manufacturing process improvements prior to launch to volume
- Enabling a paperless environment to drive additional efficiencies throughout their new product engineering and manufacturing ramp-to-volume processes
Join this session to gain insights into lessons learned and a better understanding of the leverage an MES package can provide in your NPI projects, such as:
- Cross functional team selection and charter
- Risk management and definition of project scope
- Achieve paper-less process design and
- Systematize the engineering change process
